How to Study God's Word
using the Strong's Concordance
Please work with your student in expanding their vocabulary skills using the following definitions. (Definitions from Webster's 1828 Dictionary)
Answer Key:
1 Look up the phrase rightly divide in the front of the Strong's Concordance under the scripture reference, II Timothy 2:15, and write down the Strong's Number.
Rightly Divide = ___3718G____
2. Go to the back of the Strong's Concordance and find the Greek Dictionary. It is the last dictionary. Note that all numbers are slanted. Look up the number you found in Number 1.
Write the italicized meaning:
3718 rightly divide = to make a straight cut, to dissect (expound) correctly the divine message
3. Go to a regular Dictionary and look up the italicized words:
Divide = to part or separate an entire thing into two or more pieces
Dissect = to cut in pieces with a cutting instrument, for the purpose of exming the structure and use of its several parts
4 Now rewrite the scripture, II Timothy 2:15 with the added meaning from the Greek Dictionary and the regular dictionary:
Example: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
(by making straight cuts, to dissect and correctly expound the divine message the Lord has for me - - - by using the cutting instrument of the Strong's Concordance and the Dictionary for the purpose of examining the structure of the scripture II Timothy 2:15 and its several parts.)
5. Now apply this scripture with its added meaning to your own life.
Example: Using God's Word, the Strong's Concordance, and the Dictionary together I can correctly cut apart the words in a certain Scripture to give me added meaning. When I study using these cutting tools I can become a useable workman to help me know God's Word of truth better and able to help others.
