The History of a Once Godly Nation

by George Kirkpatrick

Andrew Jackson, President of the United States after the Civil war, proclaimed:

". . . the Bible is the rock on which our republic rests."

Andrew Jackson knew and understood that all man's laws are to be based on the Bible, and that the Bible was the rock on which this nation was founded. When this rock was removed by the Supreme Court, then our foundation became one of sand. We know by the words of Jesus:

"And everyone that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it." Matthew 7:26-27

Anyone who has Spiritual eyes and Spiritual ears, knows the rain is beginning to fall, and the wind is mightily blowing upon this "great house" known as the United States of America. Truly, the fall of this "great house" will come from the hand of God.

As we witness the weakening of everything this nation once stood for, we can sense the rain, and feel the wind blowing upon our financial institutions and the legal system which has become corrupt, lazy, and inefficient. There is little trust in our government officials or in the decisions which they make.

Dissident groups are on the rise. Youth gangs control the streets of our cities. The school systems, which receive government help, can only teach what the government allows. Even the church system, which was free in God, has become enslaved to the government, becoming fearful of governmental attacks if they do not do exactly what they are told.

Racial groups are becoming more organized and violent. Why? There is only one answer. This nation has forsaken the rock on which it was founded, and it has become a house, dependent on its sand foundation, . . . and it will fall! The prophet Isaiah revealed where this nation was in the beginning:

"Yet they seek Me daily, and delight to know My ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God: they ask of Me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in approaching to God." Isaiah 58:2

When this nation began, people sought God daily in their homes, in local governments, and in the federal government. In the home, each day began with prayer. The town hall meetings were always begun by asking for God's help and guidance. School assemblies began with prayer. School classes had their time of prayer and the pledge of allegiance. Even the federal government meetings began by asking God's guidance and direction in the decisions they had to make. How far we have fallen as a nation, in our school systems, and in our homes.

When we practiced these simple truths, we truly were a nation that did righteousness. But when we forsook the ordinances of God, instead of a nation who spoke peace, we became the aggressors. Instead of a nation who stood and fought for right, it became the biggest exporter of pornography, drugs, and all other perversions. The movies made in our day are full of sex, drinking, homosexuality, violence, and every other abomination known to God. No longer are we a nation who delights in approaching unto God.

Even Harry Truman, who was called "Give them hell, Harry" knew the value of the Bible in any society. He wrote:

". . .the fundamental basis of this nation's law was given to Moses on the Mount. The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings we get from Exodus and St. Matthew, from Isaiah and St. Paul. I don't think we emphasize that enough these days. If we don't have the proper fundamental moral background, we will finally wind up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in rights for anybody but the state."

How true! Truman's words have come to pass. This nation has become a totalitarian government. According to Webster, the word totalitarian means "a centralized government which suppresses all rival political parties." This certainly has become true of the government of the United States. The two party system is in reality a one party system because there are no differences between either party. They both make promises they have no intentions of keeping. They lie, cheat, and steal to get elected, and continue this process to stay in office. Both parties only believe in the rights of the government. This will bring its eventual downfall.

President Abraham Lincoln once said,

"No army by force could take a drink out of the Mississippi River. But this nation's downfall would be from within".

The evidence of this downfall is everywhere.

Under the Constitution the people are granted certain rights. But they can only enjoy these rights as long as they do not try to exercise them. In reality, when they try to exercise their constitutional rights or their God-given rights as human beings, they discover very quickly they have no rights. Rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness have been usurped by the government they believed in and supported. They soon realize justice has turned away backward, and truth has fallen in the streets.

As we study God's Word, it becomes very clear that God is not surprised about what has happened to our legal system, and the government as a whole. God spoke through the pen of the prophet Daniel:

"This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever He will, and setteth up over it the basest of men." Daniel 4:17

God is still in charge of the kingdoms of men, and He sets over them the basest of men. The word basest means "lowest of station." We are not being ruled by the elite, we are being governed by the basest, lowest form of life on the earth. We only need to view some of the heinous crimes our country has been guilty of in the last few years to realize how far this so-called Christian nation has fallen.

First, we must realize the founding fathers stated that this was to be a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. In 1985, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, there was a group called "MOVE". This group was charged with making too much noise and annoying the neighbors, and they had strange habits. When the police tried to evict them, they resisted. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was called in to assist the local police. The authorities informed the "MOVE" organization they would use whatever force necessary to remove them, and they would not tolerate insubordination. This is exactly the same statement made by the United Nations to all nations on earth. The decision was made by the mayor, local police, and the FBI to bomb them out. A bomb was dropped by a police helicopter, killing eleven people - - - four of which were small children.

The Constitution states that a person is innocent, until proven guilty. This was a SWAT team activity which became judge, jury, and executioner. It is hard to imagine what those four innocent children were guilty of. The home where this organization lived was not the only property destroyed. A whole city block of 60 homes was burned. What were these people guilty of?

The "MOVE" organization was made to seem less-than-human in the press to try to justify these murders and destruction of property.

In April of 1992, the FBI and the United State's Marshals ascended in force with many men armed with combat weapons on Randy Weaver's cabin in Ruby Ridge, Idaho. Marshalls confronted Randy's son, his dog, and a friend named Harris. The SWAT team shot and killed the Weaver's dog. The agents, with instructions to shoot to kill any armed adult, wounded Harris. Harris fired in self-defense, killing one of the agents. This began a nine-day siege with the killing of Weaver's wife, while she held their infant child. The agents were tried and convicted, and an Appeals Court upheld the decision. The government was ordered to pay a large settlement. Nothing could repay the loss of a wife, and pay for the trauma suffered by the family, especially the innocent child who probably will be mentally scarred the rest of its life.

It is the government's belief that money can pay for all its injustices. Money can only recompense; it cannot replace life. Life in the sight of God is precious, and it is to be protected at all cost. But life has become very cheap, when it can be recompensed with money.

It was only six months after the Ruby Ridge tragedy when the Waco Siege took place in February of 1993. The Branch Davidians, led by David Karesh, were ordered to surrender and vacate their property. This seige would last fifty-one days. This was the longest, costliest, and most destructive police action on American soil.

During the seige the government, knowing there were children involved, made the decision to shut off all food deliveries, and to shut off the electric and water. Movies made at the time show the government shooting at the compound with automatic weapons. The government tried to explain away what was obvious tracer bullets as glints of the sun. But glints of the sun are not symmetrical.

Then at the end of the fifty-one day seige, tanks rammed the building, while more shots were being fired by the ATF, the FBI, and the local law enforcement. One of the excuses used for this attack, was that child abuse was going on inside the compound. When the tanks rammed the building, it broke out in flames and burned totally to the ground. Seventy-five people, including seventeen innocent children, died. This is certainly not a way to end child abuse. Again, the government became judge, jury, and executioner. This action was justified by the government.

David Karesh and his followers were made to seem less than human by the government-controlled press. Again, zero tolerance was shown when government orders were resisted. Where was the jury of their peers who found these seventy-five guilty of a crime which demands capital punishment? Again, what were these seventeen innocent children guilty of?

Many other cases of the abuse of power have been recorded.  It is simply the law of the jungle, the survival of the fittest, or the most powerful.

As we witness time and time again how wealth and fame sway the so-called justice system, we remember a few years after the MOVE incident in Philadelphia, the heir to one of the nation's richest chemical fortunes killed his personal wrestling trainer. This man was mentally disturbed. He had a tank and drove around his estate making numerous threats to people in the nearby village. It was known by the local police that this man was dangerous. Yet they did nothing about his threats to do bodily harm. So how did the police take this man into custody. They did not bomb his mansion, nor was it a long, drawn out seige. They very gently took him into custody, and he will live out his days in an expensive asylum. How money and fame make a difference in the justice system.

The prophet Isaiah spoke of the justice system of our day:

"Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid His face from you, that He will not hear." Isaiah 59:1-2

We wonder why God's blessing is no longer on this nation. The financial system is a house of cards. The stock market is over-inflated. Insurance companies have invested heavily in failed enterprises. People who have worked all their lives discover their retirement funds have been stolen or squandered on bad investments.

Iniquities have separated this nation from their God. The word iniquity means "perverseness and depravity." The people have become depraved. The word depraved means "to be corrupt in one's moral values." Truly, this is one of the most depraved nations on the face of the earth. They have forsaken every one of God's righteous judgments.
