The book of Hosea has generally been a mystery to all who read it. Many scholars have tried to understand its hidden meanings, but they only see the book of Hosea being applied to ancient Israel. But we need to look at this book through Spiritual eyes. We need to look further at the prophetic meanings Hosea was portraying.
When we begin to read the book of Hosea, many questions arise. For centuries, men have wondered why God would order one of his obedient prophets to marry an harlot. Today we would call this type of woman a prostitute, a lady of the street, and many other names. These are women of pleasure, not women which men would want to marry.
The name of this harlot was Gomer. The name Gomer is in the masculine gender. What is the hidden meaning God is trying to show us when He instructed Hosea to marry an harlot with a man's name?
Let's first look at the meaning of Hosea's name. The name Hosea means "salvation." As we begin to look at the book of Hosea, we discover Hosea was a prophet who would bring salvation to Israel:
"The word of the Lord that came unto Hosea, the son of Beeri, in the days Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel." Hosea 1:1
Next, we discover the first four kings listed are Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah which were kings of Judah. The only king of Israel mentioned was Jeroboam, the son of Joash. What hidden meaning is God revealing to us in these five kings? We discover, Hosea was a prophet to the whole house of God, not only in ancient times, but to the whole house of God in our day. Paul informs us:
"Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come." I Corinthians 10:11
What we need to understand is that what God did with Israel and Judah in the old Testament, are ensamples to us who are living at the end of the age. The word ensample means "a pattern of warnings of ruinous events." So, we need to glean from the writings of Hosea to find the warnings God has given us of the ruinous events that caused God to remove both Israel and Judah from their promise land to be scattered over the face of the whole earth.
"The beginning of the word of the Lord by Hosea. And the Lord said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the Lord." Hosea 1:2
As Hosea related, the land had committed great whoredoms in departing from the Lord. The same is true today in the land of the United States. This nation has departed from the Lord and the teachings found in His Word. Hosea further writes:
"I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets." Hosea 12:10
The Lord speaks through His prophets through multiplied visions and similitudes. The word similitudes means "parallel meaning." One way God reveals His hidden meanings are by parallel meanings. For example, He uses a physical event in the past to reveal a Spiritual event in our day. This is what Hosea did when he showed how God dealt with Israel and Judah, and how this applies to the church, upon whom the end of the age is come.
As stated before, we need to begin by asking the question, "Why would God inform one of His obedient prophets to marry a whore with a man's name?" We need to look at how this applies to our day. When we think of women who were guilty of desiring to rule over men, we naturally think of Jezebel. Looking at the parallel meaning, we discover the spirit of Jezebel is running rampant in this nation and the world in our day. Today women who are plagued with this spirit act like men, and their whole desire is to take the place of, or replace man.
The spirit of Jezebel begins in the home where the wife and the children rule the house. Most of the sit-coms and advertisements on television place the women above the man. They are portrayed as being dominant and more intelligent than the men. The children always side with mom, never dad. The man is always displayed as a weakling, with not much smarts. The prophet Isaiah revealed this situation:
"As for My people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O My people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of the paths." Isaiah 3:12
The prophet Isaiah declares that homes who have this problem are in error, and have destroyed the way of God's paths. What paths is Isaiah referring to? These paths are explained by the prophet Jeremiah:
"Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, we will not walk therein." Jeremiah 6:16
This was written to Israel and Judah, and it is written to us today who live at the end of the age. Israel and Judah would not walk in the old paths laid out in God's Word. Like Israel and Judah, the majority of the people today, also refuse to walk in the paths God has laid out in His Word.
If this spirit of Jezebel is in the home, then it will certainly exist in the church. Because of pressure being exerted by women today, many of the main line churches are now run by women. Women stand in the pulpits, and serve as elders and deacons. This is not a biblical concept. In his letter to Timothy, Paul lists twenty-five qualifications for leadership in the church. We will just list a few that women cannot fulfill:
"This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. A bishop, then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;" I Timothy 3:2
These qualifications are referred to in the masculine. A woman cannot be the husband of one wife. Paul continues:
"One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?" I Timothy 3:4-5
Again, these qualifications refer to the man, not the woman. We find these same qualifications are necessary for the office of the deacons:
"Likewise must the deacons be grave, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things." I Timothy 3:8 & 11
The deacons' wives also have qualifications. In Paul's letter to Titus, he adds another qualification:
"But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;" Titus 1:8
Paul adds another admonition to women in the church:
"But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence." I Timothy 2:12
Anyone God puts in authority to be a leader in His church operates by God's authority. Those who justify women teachers and leaders in the church will agree:
"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" II Timothy 3:16
If Paul's writings are inspired by the Holy Spirit of God, how can one possibly justify the spirit of Jezebel standing in the pulpits and usurping the authority in the church, in the home, and in every aspect of their lives?
The spirit of Jezebel also runs rampant in politics, in sports, in economics, in the military, and in the news media. Who can deny that the woman has been raised up to usurp power over every aspect of life in this end time age? This travesty is taught in our schools and is accepted in our society as `the norm.'
Who can deny that most economic experts are now women? Sportscasters are more and more being taken over by women. Many news announcers are women. How long has it been since you have seen a man teller in a bank? Even many of the executives are women.
This, then, is the message God gave Hosea to reveal to us, upon whom the end of the age is come. Hosea married Gomer, a woman who had a man's name, and this spirit of Jezebel is very evident in our society today.
God informed Hosea to marry the harlot Gomer, and they had children. The first was a son. God spoke to Hosea to call his name, Jezreel. The name Jezreel means "God sows." When a new church is started, it is said of that church that God has planted another church. So, we can see that God's judgment is going to come upon what God has planted.
As God proclaimed through the pen of Hosea, "I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu." Jehu was king over Israel over one hundred years before Hosea was called of the Lord to be a prophet to Israel. So, what was it that Jehu did for God to make mention of it to Hosea over one hundred years later? The prophet Elisha had sent one of the offspring of the prophets to anoint Jehu king over Israel:
"And when he came, behold, the captains of the host were sitting; and he said, I have an errand to thee, O captain. And Jehu said, Unto which of all us? And he said, To thee, O captain. And he arose, and went into the house; and he poured the oil on his head, and said unto him, thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I have anointed thee king over the people of the Lord, even over Israel.
And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the Lord, at the hand of Jezebel." II Kings 9:5-7
Jehu was given the order to smite the house of Ahab, and to avenge the blood of God's prophets at the hand of Jezebel. Jehu carried out this mission with absolute swiftness.
"And when Jehu was come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she painted her face, and tired her head, and looked out a window. And(Jehu) lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? Who? And there looked out to him two or three eunuchs. And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down: and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trode her under foot." II Kings 9:30-33
Judgment had finally come on the wicked woman who had slain God's prophets. We are informed by the apostle Peter:
"For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?" I Peter 4:17
God's judgment hand will begin at the house of God. What is God going to judge in His house? The first thing he will judge is the spirit of Jezebel that stands in the pulpit. Then Peter inquires what will be the end of those who obey not the gospel? God's judgment hand will not only fall upon the spirit of Jezebel who stand in the pulpit, but it will also fall upon all those who agree with this heinous sin.
When God spoke to John on the Isle of Patmos concerning the church at Thyatira, he commended them on their work, their charity, and their service before God. He also commended them for their faith and their patience, but . . .
"Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols." Revelation 2:20
The church at Thyatira had allowed the spirit of Jezebel to teach and seduce God's servants into teaching the ways of Baalam - - - and God will judge His house today for this also.
God spoke to Hosea that He would avenge the blood of the prophets who had been slain by the hand of Jezebel, and that He would do this by the house of Jehu. The word avenge means "to visit, to entrust, and to care for." The name Jehu means "Jehovah is He!" Those whose labor of love is accomplished in God's name will be blessed by God. Jehu was an example of one of God's servants who was entrusted to care for His people. Jehu was given a job to do by God, and when he had accomplished this job, God gave Jehu His blessing:
"And the Lord said unto Jehu, Because thou hast done well in executing that which is right in Mine eyes, and hast done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in Mine heart, thy children of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel." II Kings 10:30
Hosea declared, " . . . and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel, Hosea 1:4b. Israel, indeed, was driven from their promised land in 722 B.C. Hosea was the last prophet to prophesy to Israel before they were taken into captivity and dispersed all over the earth.
The prophets today in this last generation are warning God's people of His coming judgment. The little flock who obeys His Word will be taken into the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, and become part of His Kingdom, (our promised land). But those who do not obey the gospel will be part of the wrath of God where there will be weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Gomer conceived again and bear Hosea a daughter. She was to be called Loruhamah which means "show no mercy." Those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ will be shown no mercy.
"So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. For He shall have judgment without mercy, that hath showed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment." James 2;12-13
Many today proclaim they have a free will when serving the Lord. One denomination even calls themselves 'Free Will'. When God's judgment is poured out, it will be poured out without mercy upon those who do not have His Spirit. In his letter to the Romans, Paul declared:
"Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His." Romans 8:9c
Those who do not have the Spirit of Christ will be judged when God's wrath is poured out. Three times God spoke to Jeremiah not to pray for Israel. God had poured out His blessings upon Israel for years - - - and yet, they turned to their idols and forgot God. The same is true today. God's people in America have forgotten God and have turned to their idols of entertainment, sports, sex, and obtaining wealth. God spoke to Jeremiah:
"Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee." Jeremiah7:16
Why would God inform Jeremiah to no longer pray for Israel?
"Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke Me to anger. Do they provoke Me to anger? saith the Lord: Do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?" Jeremiah 7:17-19
The children gather the wood, the fathers kindle the fire, and the women kneed the dough. The whole family was involved in this false worship of the Queen of Heaven. It is not only the Catholics who worship their false gods. Many today worship mother nature or mother earth. And as God spoke to Jeremiah, these provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces. The word confusion means "shame." When God's judgment comes, many will not be able to lift their heads and look upon His face. Jeremiah continues:
"Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto Me for their trouble." Jeremiah 11:14
Again God informed Jeremiah that he was no longer to pray for this people. Why?
"What hath My beloved to do in Mine house, seeing she hath wrought lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from thee? When thou doest evil, then thou rejoicest. The Lord called thy name, a green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult He hath kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken. For the Lord of hosts, that planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee, for the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done against themselves to provoke Me to anger in offering incense unto Baal." Jeremiah 11:15-17
Who are God's beloved, and who are those of His house? It is the church, and the church has wrought lewdness. The word lewdness means "preoccupied with the things of this life." With many today, the holy flesh has passed from them. What is the holy flesh? It is the body of Christ. We are informed by Jesus to eat His body and drink His blood. This is what we call `communion'. Most churches only take this once a year, and some churches never partake of this holy communion with Christ.
God called His people `a green olive tree', but He stated the branches are broken. Jesus stated:
"I am the vine, ye are the branches:" John 15:5a
But when the branches are broken off, they are no longer part of the vine which grows from the root. Paul explained about these broken branches:
"And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;
Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.
Well, because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee." Romans 11:17 & 19-21
The natural branches of Israel were broken off, and the Gentile church was grafted in. Natural Israel was broken off because of unbelief. We are not to be highminded, but fear. Fear should be in the heart of every Christian who is not completely sold out to God, because if God spared not natural Israel for their sin, will he treat the church any differently?
God related that Jeremiah was to longer pray for Israel because they offered incense to Baal. The church today also worships the god of Baal, which is the god of increase and prosperity. This is called the prosperity message in the church where one is taught to pray for everything God is wanting removed from our lives.
By the Holy Spirit, the writer of Chronicles relates:
"If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." II Chronicles 7:14
God's people who are called by His name are Christians. God reveals if they shall humble themselves and pray and seek His face and turn from their wicked ways, then He will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Today the whole world is in a state of turmoil and fear. Why is this? It is because of their sin - - - the sin in the government - - - and the sin in the church. Both have come to the forefront, and God's judgment will be poured out upon all sin.
The third time God spoke to Jeremiah that he was not to pray for Israel was:
"Then said the Lord unto me, Pray not for this people for their good." Jeremiah 14:11
God did not want Jeremiah to pray for Israel for their good. The word good means "welfare, prosperity, or happiness."
"Then said I, Ah, Lord God! Behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place." Jeremiah 14:13
The prophets here represent the pastors who stand in the pulpits and preach prosperity and good will. They fail to warn the people of the coming wrath. These are those who proclaim, "Peace! Peace!" Jeremiah also spoke of this fallacy:
"They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of My people slightly, saying, Peace! Peace! When there is no peace." Jeremiah 6:14
The daughters in the Old Testament are the church in the New Testament. Because of these false proclaimers of the Word, God's people have only been healed slightly, not completely. When they proclaim peace, no judgment, the rapture, once-saved, always-saved, and ultimate reconciliation, then God's judgment will come if we pray or if we do not. The prophet Ezekiel wrote of these pastors who speak in the name of the Lord, but have not been ordained of Him to speak:
"They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, The Lord saith: and the Lord hath not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would confirm the word. Have ye not seen a vain vision, and have ye not spoken a lying divination, whereas ye say, The Lord saith it; albeit I have not spoken?
Therefore thus saith the Lord God; because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold I am against you, saith the Lord God. Because, even because they have seduced My people, saying, peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others daubed it with untempered mortar:" Ezekiel 13:6-8, & 10
These pastors who do not have the Spirit speak, and hope others will confirm their words. But God will deal with these false proclaimers. Jeremiah continued:
"Then the Lord said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in My name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart." Jeremiah 14:14
These who speak messages such as the rapture, once-saved, always-saved, and ultimate reconciliation are speaking from the deceit of their own hearts. Jeremiah concludes with:
"Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning the prophets that prophesy in My name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed." Jeremiah 14:15
God will deal with those He has not sent. He will have no mercy on them, because they have led God's people away, and have not shown them mercy. This is the message God was showing Hosea with the birth of his daughter, Loruhamah. Hosea proclaimed:
". . . for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel; but I will utterly take them away." Hosea 1:???
Because of their sin, God would no longer have mercy upon Israel. We can say the same thing of the church today who have not learned their lesson by looking to Israel as their example. But God promised Hosea:
"But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by the Lord their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen." Hosea 1:7
God will have mercy upon Judah. Judah represents the people of praise. Yes, God is going to save His remnant, and this will not be by sword, or battle, or by horses, or by horsemen. God is going to save His people by His Holy Spirit of promise. We have this promise through the pen of the prophet Zechariah:
"Then He answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the Word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts." Zechariah 4:6
The name Zerubbabel means "those who are called out of Babylon, called out of confusion." The United States is Mystery Babylon in the book of Revelation. Zechariah stated the same thing Hosea did. God is going to preserve His people by His Holy Spirit anointing, not by might nor by power.
Next, Hosea revealed that when Gomer weaned Loruhamah, she conceived again and bare Hosea his third child.
"Then said God, Call his name Loammi: for ye are not My people, and I will not be your God." Hosea 1:9
The name Loammi means "not My people." Because of Israel's gross sin, God spoke to Hosea that He would no longer recognize ancient Israel as His people. But God gave Israel hope through the pen of Hosea:
"Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, ye are not My people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God." Hosea 1:10
The number of the children of Israel will be as the sand of the sea, without number. Then it shall be said of them, "Ye are the sons of the living God." Paul quoted these verses in his letter to the Romans:
"As He saith also in Osee, I will call them My people, which were not My people; and her beloved, which was not beloved. And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not My people; there shall they be called the children of the living God." Romans 9:25-26
What are we to see in what Hosea and Paul wrote? First, in Hosea we see there were multitudes who claimed to be God's chosen people in ancient times, and this is true today, also. But there is only going to be a remnant who will be called the sons of God. There are two kinds of people who claim they serve God - - - the sand seed and the star seed. Paul explained the difference between these two peoples in his letter to the Corinthians.
"All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.
There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another." I Corinthians 15:39-40
As Paul related, all flesh is not the same. Then he goes on to explain there are bodies that are celestial and there are bodies that are terrestrial; and that there is a difference in these two glories. The terrestrial bodies belong to those who are tied to the earth. These have no Spiritual vision. They can only see what goes on around them. These are the sand seed.
The star seed, on the other hand, are the celestial bodies. These have a vision. They can see afar off. Their vision does not only see today, but what God has promised in His Word. The sand seed is natural Israel which God proclaimed, ". . . are not My people." But the star seed, the celestial bodies will become the sons or the children of the living God.
"Say ye unto your brethren, Ammi: and to your sisters, Ruhamah. Plead with your mother, plead: for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband: Let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her adulteries from between her breasts;" Hosea 2:1-2
When Hosea spoke to His son and daughter, he did not use their full names. He called them Ammi and Ruhamah. The name Ammi means "My people" and the name Ruhamah means "mercy." So, Hosea sent a people of mercy to plead with the one who had given them life. Ammi and Ruhamah were to plead with their mother to put away her whoredoms and adulteries.
Hosea had rejected Gomer from being his wife. This is the same condition the church is in today. God has rejected the lukewarm, sin-ridden church from being His cherished bride. Beloved, God is sending His people of mercy to plead with the church to cease from their whoredoms and adulteries, and turn with their whole heart back to Him.
What was God going to do to the adulterous church?
"Lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born, and make her as a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and slay her with thirst." Hosea 2:3
We have many examples of this nakedness in the sight of God. When man sinned in the garden, they found themselves naked. God had opened their physical eyes, and they recognized their nakedness before Him. This happened because when they sinned, God removed His Spirit from them. The same was true when the children of Israel were in the wilderness, and they had Aaron make them a golden calf to worship:
"And when Moses saw that the people were naked; for Aaron had made them naked unto their shame among their enemies:" Exodus 32:25
This did not mean the people had removed their clothing. It meant their protective covering of the Holy Spirit had departed because of their sin.
God promised He would make the church as a wilderness, or a desolation; and set her as a dry land - - - or God was going to dry up the water of the Word in their lives. God, indeed, did this and slew her with thirst. The prophet Amos prophesied of this same condition in the day in which we live.
"Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:" Amos 8:11
This famine exists in the church system today. People are dying spiritually because they are being denied the Word of God. Hosea continues:
"And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they be the children of whoredoms." Hosea 2:4
God will not have mercy on the children in the church. When the children were young, they were given coloring books instead of the Word of God - - - when they were teenagers, they were given Christian rock music to allure them into the church - - - and when they were adults, they left the church because it had no meaning, no power, and no more allurement in their lives.
"For their mother hath played the harlot: she that conceived them hath done shamefully: for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink." Hosea 2:5
The church system has played the harlot with those who have the finances to support their opulence. The church system has gone after her lovers who give her bread, water, wool, flax, oil and drink - - - or, to her lovers who have supplied all her needs. She did not have to look to her husband, God, for anything. What will God do with this harlot church system?
"Therefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and make a wall, that she shall not find her paths. And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now." Hosea 2:6-7
God will hedge up her ways with thorns. Thorns are a sign of a curse. God is going to make a wall, a wall in her mind, that she cannot find the ancient paths to walk in. She will follow the money, but her money will dry up. Then it will come into her mind to return to her first husband, God. But her husband has rejected or divorced her. In his letter to the Hebrews Paul informs us:
"For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins." Hebrews 10:26
The church system does not realize the dangerous place it has come to. Paul further explains:
"For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, and have tasted the good Word of God, and the powers of the world to come, if they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put Him to an open shame." Hebrews 6:4-6
It is impossible to renew again to repentance those who have been enlightened to the Word and tasted of the heavenly gift, the Holy Spirit anointing, because they have again crucified the Son of God and put Him to open shame. The apostle Peter also proclaimed:
"For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them." II Peter 2:20-21
Those who teach once-saved, always saved, ultimate reconciliation, and all other false doctrines should read God's Word. All those who desire to be part of God's Kingdom should heed the words Paul wrote to Timothy:
"Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are His. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity." II Timothy 2:9
Hosea was a prophet to Israel for approximately fifty years, and had many things to say to the church. He goes on to warn God's people:
"Hear the Word of the Lord, ye children of Israel: for the Lord hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land." Hosea 4:1
The word controversy means "a dispute, strife, or quarrel". Yes, there is much strife because there is no truth, mercy, or knowledge of God in the land. This nation has completely outlawed any knowledge of God. We hear of people being arrested for praying in the public, for holding prayers meetings in their homes, and of street evangelists being put in jail. Hosea continues:
"By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood." Hosea 4:2
Swearing, lying, killing, stealing, and committing adultery sure sounds like the programs that are shown on television, in the movies and in printed form today. Blood toucheth blood. Violence is displayed today in all forms of entertainment. God judged the world in the time of the flood because of all the violence. Moses recorded:
"And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually." Genesis 6:5
The earth today is no different than it was in the days of Noah, when God destroyed all the people except eight. Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord - - - and we, too, had better hope we find grace in the eyes of the Lord. Hosea goes on to explain:
"Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away." Hosea 4:3
The land shall mourn. The word mourn means "lament." Today the land is lamenting and the people are languishing, as are the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heavens. So why is the land lamenting and the people, the beasts of the field, and the fowls of the air languishing? People do not realize the complete hopelessness of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. This oil leak cannot be stopped.
As Hosea proclaimed by the inspiration of God, ". . . the fishes shall be taken away." The word sea is generally speaking of a body of salt water. The harvest of sea life in this nation, not only supplies income for a vast multitude of people, it also supplies food for people all over the world. There are millions of barrels of oil that have already flowed into the Gulf of Mexico, but it will quickly get into the Atlantic Ocean. And everywhere the oil flows, the sea life will perish. This is why the land is lamenting and the people are languishing. Not only because their livelihood is being taken away, but also some of their food supply. It would be hard for anyone to disagree that this oil spill is part of God's judgment upon a wicked, sinful nation. Hosea put it very plain when he stated.
"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to Me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children." Hosea 4:6
What knowledge is God speaking of? It is the knowledge of His Word. The people in this nation and the church system, also, have rejected God's Word. For this reason, God has rejected them. Those who have rejected God's Word will no longer be priests (ministers) of God. Those in the pulpits who have rejected Gods Word will be dealt with very harshly. And to all those who have forgotten the law of God, God will also forget their children. What a pronouncement!
Hosea gives us much insight as to why Israel lost their promise land. He also gives us much encouragement upon whom the end of the age has come. Hosea declared:
"Come, and let us return unto the Lord: for He hath torn, and He will heal us; He hath smitten, and He will bind us up. After two days will He revive us: in the third day He will raise us up, and we shall live in His sight." Hosea 6:1-2
God is going to heal our spiritual condition when we return to Him with our whole heart. Then, after two days (or on the third day) He will revive us. The word revive means "to restore to life." What life? Praise the Lord, God will restore to us the life He created in the garden. This will be Eternal Life. In the third day, God is going to raise us up, and we will forever live in His sight. The word live is the same word as revive. Hosea continues:
"Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord: His going forth is prepared as the morning; and He shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth." Hosea 6:3
There is a following on the know the Lord in all His fullness. If we follow on to know the Lord, then He will come upon us as the rain. The rain is a similitude of the Holy Spirit anointing. The early church received the former rain on the Day of Pentecost. Look at the mighty works they were able to perform. But God has also promised that those who follow on to know the Lord, will not only receive the former rain, but they will also receive the latter rain. This is the promise of God's double portion anointing which is to come. So, when can we expect this double portion anointing? To discover this, we must look to the book of Joel:
"Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God: for He hath given you the former rain moderately, and He will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month." Joel 2:23
The children of Zion are the sons of God. These are those who will receive the former and latter rain in the first month of the third day. The early church only received the former rain. But those who follow on to know the fullness of God will receive the early and latter rain together. These will be empowered to do the mighty works in the coming new day. Jesus spoke of this third day when the Pharisees came to Him and told Him Herod was going to kill Him. Jesus' answer was:
"And He said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected." Luke 13:32
The two days Jesus spoke of was the church age. For two thousand years, since Jesus' death and resurrection, God has left His people in the hands of the church. It was the church's job to do cures (or healings) and cast out devils (deliverances). This, the church has failed to do.
Then Jesus stated that on the third day, He would be perfected. How is Jesus going to be perfected? He is going to be perfected in those who follow on to know God in all His fullness. The word perfected means "come to maturity." This coming to maturity will happen when His body receives the early and latter rain. The apostle James gives us further insight into the day we are all looking forward to:
"Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the Husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until He receive the early and latter rain." James 5:7
We are admonished to be patient. Many are running ahead, proclaiming that what we are to be patient for has already happened. But James declared the Husbandman (Christ Jesus) is waiting for the precious fruit of the earth to mature. The precious fruit of the earth are those who know and understand the fullness of our goal. These are those who will receive the early and latter rain, the double portion anointing. James continues:
"Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh." James 5:8
We are to be patient and establish our hearts. We are not to be tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine.
Hosea laid out God's plan pretty convincingly for all to read and understand. And as the writer of Chronicles declared, God's people who are called by His name should humble themselves, pray, and seek God's face, and turn (repent) of their wicked ways. If they will do this, then God will forgive their sin and their land. Their mortal bodies will be healed (preserved).
God has promised and God cannot lie. Every Word he gave us is an absolute truth. Believe it and live. Praise God!
