"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people, that ye should show forth the praises of Him who hath called ye out of darkness, into His marvelous light."I Peter 2:9

Now is the time to change like the trees. Put off the works of the flesh. Let them all die off. Every single little leaf (fleshly thoughts and doings) must be put off and done away with.

"Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, jealousies, wrath, strife, seditions, divisions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkeness, revellings, and such like; of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God." Galatians 5:19 21

Search your thoughts and doings deeply. The little things are just as important as the big things. Just like a little white lie is still a lie. It is one of the little leaves that are not that heavy. It takes longer for it to fall off the tree. Harder to get rid of! We all have those little leaves to get rid of. The best and only way to help rid ourselves of these dead leaves (dead works) is to apply the Fruit of the Spirit.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23

"For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;" Ephesians 5:9

We are the trees that need to grow the fruit of the Spirit so that we may touch other lives to encourage them to grow the same type of fruit: fruit that is sweet, of good color, texture, and flavor. By Nancy Bixler

Old Abram lived in days of yore
Beyond the Euphrates.
God told him he should leave his home,
And go where HE would please

He took his goods and family,
And journeyed: Westward Ho!
Until he came to Canaan -
As far as he should go.

God promised him that He would bless
Him truly mightily;
That he would give to him this land -
As far as eye could see!

God also said a son would come -
Though it seemed very looooong.
God knew that He could trust the man
To teach him right from wrong.

So, in due time, Ike came along -
As handsome as could be -
Who'd walk in all the ways of God
In all things, faithfully.

One day God said, "O, Abraham!
Your son I do require!
Take him with you, and go three days
Unto the Mount Moriah!"

So Abraham obeyed the Lord
And did what he was told;
But just before the knife came down
The Lord said, "Abram, hold!

"Lay not your hand upon the lad -
Do nothing unto him!
For now I know that you fear God,
And lov'dst Me more than him.

"Return again unto your house;
I'll bless you mightily:
Like stars in sky and sand in sea -
You and your family!"

So, Abram lived a ripe old age -
One hundred seventy-five;
And father of the faithful is
To all who like him live.

Let's be like father Abraham
And trust the Lord each day;
For, in each test and in each trial
He'll surely show the way! A poem by Cornelius Buhler
