GOD'S BLESSING

By Laura Brown No. 48

"He that hath clean hands and a pure heart: who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation." Psalm 24:4-5

We need to be right in our lives in order to receive God's blessing in our lives. The main blessings we should desire in our lives are His righteousness and salvation. The other blessings will follow if we are right with Him.

#1 CLEAN HANDS

The phrase "clean hands" means God wants us to be innocent, blameless, and guiltless while we labor with our hands for Him. He wants our hands to be completely clean and free from any iniquity. As well as laboring with our hands for Him, we also use our hands to praise Him. If we have unclean hands and sin in our lives then sin will cause our hands to be weighed down and unable to praise Him. God wants us to lay aside every weight and sin which hinders us or lays heavily upon us, Hebrews 12:1. Our hands must be clean before Him.

#2 PURE HEART

The word "pure" means "to be free from moral or physical defilement; sinless and polished." The heart, which is our mind, is where our understanding is. A pure heart is to have a clean, polished, blameless, and sinless mind. Before we can receive the blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of our salvation, God wants our minds to be purged from all sin, guilt, and impurities. He wants our hearts, our minds, to be clean and our only desire is to know Him and have His Holy Spirit and Word in our hearts.

"Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which Thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide Thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me." Psalm 51:7-10

Hyssop is an herb that is an excellent blood regulator and is a good tonic when the system is in a weakened condition. David asked the Lord to purge him with hyssop and he would be clean. David was crying out to God to clean him spiritually from sins he had committed. We should cry out as David did and repent for any sins in our hearts so we may be pure before God also. When we are going through trials and afflictions it is important to have a pure heart, so we can truly rejoice in what God is doing. When He breaks our bones it is to keep us in a certain place. He does this to keep us from going the wrong way. As a shepherd David knew that sometimes it was necessary to break the legs of his sheep to keep them from going the wrong way. The Good Shepherd also does the same thing in our lives because he knows what we need to become pure in our walk.

#3 WHO HATH NOT LIFTED UP HIS SOUL TO VANITY

Our soul is the foundation of our thoughts, will, and emotion. It is the essential basis of our individual personality. God doesn't want us to lift our minds, hearts, will, or bodies unto worthlessness. He doesn't want us to give ourselves unto lies and being false. He wants our soul to bring forth much fruit. We can become fruitless when there is lying and false ways in our hearts!

"Now in the morning as He returned into the city, He hungered. And when He saw a fig tree in the way, He came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away." Matthew 29:18-19

If we lift our souls unto vanity, one day God will come to us hungry and find no fruit. He will curse us as He did the fig tree, and if there is no fruit on our tree, we will wither and die.

#4 WHO HATH NOT SWORN DECEITFULLY

The phrase "sworn deceitfully" means "not to vow falsely or make a false promise". When we make a vow or promise to our brother or sister, God wants us to carry it out. We cannot break those promises or vows or be false to our brother or sister in any way.

"These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbor; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates: And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbor; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the Lord." Zechariah 8:16-17

"He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit." Proverbs 12:17

We need to speak truth. When we do we will come into the blessings of God. We need to examine our hearts. Are our hands clean and pure? Have we left off speaking vanity and swearing deceitfully? God's blessings are awaiting us if we turn away from all these things.

"I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:" Deuteronomy 30:1

The   Tongue

But the tongue can no man tame;
It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
Therewith bless we God, even the Father
And therewith curse we men,
which are made after the similitude of God.

Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing.
My brethren these things ought not so to be.
Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?
James 3:8-11

I am purposed my mouth shall not transgress. Psalm 17:3b

Vital words from the body to the body

Quote: The Lord has recently spoken to me to believe in His keeping power for my children as in I Peter 1:5, to pray for my husband as the priest of our home, that he will be on his face before the Lord to receive the wisdom needed to lead his family in these last days. And though there be heaviness as in I Peter 1:6, verse 7 says that the trials of our faith are much more precious than gold. And to bring forth His glory, inspite of, or within the trials. I must be broken bread and the poured out wine. Let His love continue to flow out no matter what the circumstance. From K. Woodbury, Minnesota
